Client Challenges & Escalations
Protecting workers and property during a gas leak emergency
Simply Homes
After a contractor reported a suspected gas leak during an active renovation, I coordinated the immediate safety response, repair, communication, and recovery.
Safety protected · Delay limited to 24 hoursThe challenge
The situation created an immediate danger to workers and the property, with the potential to cause a much longer renovation delay if the response was slow or unclear.
My role
I became the central point of coordination from the first report, prioritizing people, then securing the property, arranging the repair, and keeping stakeholders informed.
What I did
- Instructed workers to evacuate immediately
- Contacted emergency services and the gas utility
- Coordinated the licensed technician and repair crew
- Provided proactive stakeholder updates
- Managed follow-up inspection before normal work resumed
What changed
- All workers evacuated safely
- Gas service shut off immediately
- The damaged pipe identified and repaired
- Renovation delay limited to approximately 24 hours
- Final inspection completed successfully
Under pressure, the order of decisions matters. Safety came first, communication second, and operational recovery third.
